Water is not only an element, but also a carrier of meaning - a medium that shapes, connects and dissolves bodies.

In the work complex acid in the shell (2024/25), water as a living but also fragile material is the center of the artistiv discussion.

The human skin with a pH-value of 5.5 gets related to sea water, whose pH-value fluctuates between 7.5 adn 8.4 - a balance that is increasingly becoming unbalanced. The creeping acidification of the seas is an invisible but profound transformation that threatens organic life. The mussel, whose byssus threads dissolve due to the increasing acidity in the water, becomes a symbol of this change.

During the exhibition, a mussel dissolved in the water ever day in a silent but haunting gesture of disappearance. A trace of skin remained, an imprint of transience that made the connection between humans and water tangible.

acid in the shell, 2025 is a poetic reflection on the physicality of water and its ecological fragility. The work draws with traces of water and shows
embedded, interwined, interconnected bodies on large fabric sheets that hang freely in space: the connection between water and humans, which
Astrida Neimanis describes as an existential question in her book, Bodies of Water (2017).

Water shapes us, but what traces do we leave behind in return?
